• 1607 ‐ Virginia Colony founded; Anglican Church established as only legal religion
• 1739 ‐ George Whitefield preaches in Williamsburg
• 1740s ‐ Samuel Morris begins secret Bible readings
• 1743 ‐ Four "“reading houses” officially licensed (including Polegreen)
• 1747 ‐ Samuel Davies arrives as first non-Anglican minister
• 1752 ‐ Davies' hymns published in Williamsburg
• 1759 ‐ Davies leaves Virginia
• 1775-1783 - American Revolution
• 1862 ‐ Church documented in Lieutenant Farrell's sketches
• 1864 ‐ Church destroyed during Civil War
• Today ‐ Legacy continues through education and preservation
